New Website: What do you think?

25 February 2009 58 Comments

Websites are always a work in progress and this one is no different. Nothing is finalized and I will keep making changes and additions.

I liked my old website but it had a lot of room for improvement. I spend a lot of time promoting things all over the place (facebook, myspace, messageboards, etc) because I love the interaction with the fans and I like to let people know whats going on. I get a ton of fan messages through various sites and I try my best to get back to everyone, but I just can’t keep up with them all. I decided to put more emphasis on fan interaction here so when people ask questions I can answer things once and not get the same 10 questions over and over (like “When is your next fight?” or people asking for training tips, weight loss help and ways to improve their cardio). So please go and register on here so you can post comments and make things easier on us all. I will be able to answer more questions and I am sure others have asked the same questions you are asking!

Last but least, let me know what you think of the site!

I like this development, Joe. More (and quicker) interaction with the fans is always an improvement!

I have to approve people’s comments for the first time… after that, comments get posted. You guys should have comments go up without delay going forward. Thanks for the input.

the header/banner needs too be worked on

  • zoies said:

Looks good, I like the colors, but I agree work on the banner on top. Joe Lauzon.com should be larger. Also a section or link to a section with pictures for those of us who don’t like to deal with myspace etc :)

    Hey Joe,
I’m a creative director and work on websites, magazines and branding, yadda yadda…so that’s where i’m coming from. (and i’m a big fan!)
Your website should basically work as an advertisement for you…kind of as a brand.
So the first thing you should see when you get to your site is a PICTURE of you and your name big!
My first impression was…it’s a page full of copy that’s all roughly the same size and color…and i couldn’t really tell what the website was about…nothing really stood out.
(a good test to do is to pretend the site is all in spanish or something…how quickly would you be able to tell that the site is about a FIGHTER named JOE LAUZON?)
So that might be what i would change…a big pic of you and your name big.
Just wanted to offer some constructive criticism!
(you don’t need to post this in your comments if you don’t want…just wanted to give you my thoughts)

I hear ya Brandon. Thats all being planned… I started this yesterday and figured it was time to start looking at errors before we get crazy with graphics. Good input though. Thanks

Looks good man, love the idea for fan interaction. Now I don’t have to hunt down your myspace page to find out information on your next fight and what not. I can just come straight to the source.

  • Fran(tik) said:

Hey, I like what you’ve done with the place. I’ve been on almost everyday this week. Suprised when I checked it out today. I agree that (for those of us who look forward to seeing you when we sign on) that we need a pic! Looking forward to another fight soon.

Looks great Joe! You did a great good job!

  • Kirik said:

Very sharp looking. I don’t want to sound too mercenary, but I can’t find anywhere to buy Joe Lauzon stuff? Even a tshirt would be great.

  • Watsonia said:

Hola! Agree with the banner recommendations, love the caricature on the background. You might also try testing ‘scroll with page’ feature on the background to see if it looks good with the white font? Gotta love social media :) Nice work kid!

Really liking the site Joe! This will be much better for you man. I really do like the color schemes and use of transparencies.

Hey if I ever get out to Boston, does your school offer ‘single day’ training or anything like that? Would be so much fun to check it out during a trip.

  • chellegirl said:

Nice site Joe! It’s coming along very nicely. I think some training stuff, kinda like what BJ does, would be pretty cool though. Keep it up though!

Greetings Joe, site is looking great. Who is the artist who created your cartoon caricature? Amazing work!

To fellow fans of Joe – Just wanted to say that I saw Joe at the Honda Center for the Affliction Day Of Reckoning weigh-ins. He was incredibly nice to all of his fans while signing autographs and posing for photos. Truly a class act.

Nice job Joe, tell Guido to slow down.

If this website had a vagina, I’d hit it.

“Hey if I ever get out to Boston, does your school offer ’single day’ training or anything like that? Would be so much fun to check it out during a trip.” – Of course. Just come and in and train.

    Caricature was done by http://www.myspace.com/chuckdrywall

Going to add lots of training stuff… mostly videos.

Okay, so I have a question. Don’t know if you will want to post this on your site or not, but I was wondering where you stand spiritually? What drives you and, if anything, what or who do you have faith in? Are you a spiritual person? Church? God? Just curious. Have an awesome day, so stoked that we get the opportunity to chat with you like this.

  • nbonz4 said:

Are you going to be putting any info up regarding injury recovery? I don’t mean broken toes, but am wondering more about how you have/would deal with injury recovery that limits what you can do, one that you cannot just push through. I’ve been very frustrated trying to recover from knee surgery and am wondering your point of view…Thanks!

  • Lauzonlove said:

Hey Joe baby! So I think I got the website thing down now lol. I’m going to admit I’m not very computer saavy takes me awhile to figure out websites and what not. lol. I agree with Kirik there should be something to buy some LAUZON WEAR!! Well, still your biggest fan and hope your doing well. Maybe I’ll stop by and train with ya for a day. That would be AMAZING!! Talk to you soon Joe!! ::hugs and kiss::

    Joe,

Site is definitely fan friendly. What happened to your list of sponsors? I am looking for a new website design company for a project of mine.

    Any suggestions??

Good luck with the rehab and the rebirth of the site.

    T

  • Joe Lauzon (author) said:

Sponsors will go back up… I don’t think I am going to make a sponsors page this time… I think I am just going to rotate ads. Want to finalize the design before I start getting ads from sponsors though.

Hey dude you need a place for your record and fight history. I haven’t been keeping up recently and couldn’t quickly find out the who/what/where/ and how you did in your most recent fight without a quick google.

I know i must be dense or something… but you asked!

  • homegrowncone said:

Hey man good luck with your surgery. I’m not a religious person but I will certainly take some time to focus positive thoughts and energy your way.

    Congrats on the W.
