Clearing up the Facebook Personal/Fan Page Issue
To begin with, you should add my Facebook FAN page.
I get a lot of messages on Facebook and through email about why I don’t add people to my personal Facebook page. Typically when I get a friend request from someone that isn’t an actual friend, I send them a copy-and-pasted message asking them to join my fan page. Most people appreciate the fact I take the time to message them. Some give me the “uh, no thanks” or just don’t do it. It’s not me being uppity, its a numbers limitation.
I used to accept everyone and I hit the max of 5,000 friends pretty quick. Then I had like 2,000 people waiting to be friends and sending me messages on why I hadn’t accept them yet. Got to the point where to add people I actually knew, I had to delete random people from my page… which in turn got people upset.
So… I started the fan page which has no limit. Removed every single friend from my personal account and started new. Now when I get friend requests, I spend a GOOD amount of time copying and pasting that message to everyone and denying requests. Right now I have about 100 people that sent me requests, and I just went through last weekend.
Everything that gets posted on my normal page goes to my fan page anyways…. and I still respond to people on there. Trust me, I would MUCH rather just hit “Accept All” on friend requests.
Joe, you’re still the man. No explanations necessary!
Even if you didn’t want to hit “Accept All”, that’s completely your prerogative. Just because people see you fight in the UFC doesn’t mean you have to open up every facet of your life. Don’t sweat it – the non-idiots will see you are being cooler than most.
Totally understandable. Being in the UFC is like any other pro sport so you attract a huge following. With all of the instant technology like facebook and Twitter the average Joe (haha) can be in contact with people such as yourself that they normally would have very little chance to interact with. I find myself commenting and expecting responses from everyone but I realize it would be near impossible to do that. I spend too much time on here and I only have a handful of friends and contacts. Thank for taking the time for the explanation. I for one appreciate you taking time out of your hectic schedule to say be on here as much as you do
Thats perfectly reasonable im a fan of you on facebook and think its great now nice and how much you share with your fans you deserve your own personal space.

BTW, great battle with Stout at UFC 108. You’re a warrior man. I know you’re all about the jujitsu n all that, but when are you gunna knock the eff out of someone again like you did Lil’ Evil?
Facebook is great, but the separation between regular pages and fan pages causes lots of confusion. I think you’ve come up with a good solution. Props!
