You can’t build a reputation on what you’re going to do. You have to go out and do it.

Melvin Guillard said in a interview he was going to ask the UFC to fight me. I think the media blew it out of proportion a little bit and really ran with it saying he challenged me. I posted a blog saying if thats what the UFC wanted, then lets do it. I have always said, I will fight whoever they want. They are the bosses and they tell me who to fight. Read More | Comments

I’m fighting Curt Warburton (7-2 MMA, 1-1 UFC) this Sunday at the UFC Live on Versus card. While I won’t be on the card that will be broadcast on Versus, my fight will be shown on the UFC’s facebook page. So if you want to watch…

    1) Go to Facebook.com/UFC
    2) Like their page
3 Click “Live Video” in the left hand column.

The Facebook Pre-Lims start at 4:55pm (eastern time). I’m the 6th fight on the card, so I am not really sure what time I will be going on. Definitely some time before 9pm though, because that is when the main card begins. If I had to guess, I would say I will be fighting somewhere around 7:30 or 8:00.

For the whole week, I will be posting all kinds of fight week stuff on my twitter… so follow along and let me entertain you!

We have been planning the start of a teens program at Lauzon MMA for about a month and a half now, and it is finally here. It is tough enough running an adult class because of the diversity in size/strength/skill/etc… but with kids it can be even tougher because a few years in age is a big deal. 25 to 30 isn’t a huge gap in an adult class, but 9 to 14 is a lifetime. We thought running a teens program for those that are a little too much for the kids class but not quite big/old enough for the adult class.

We are looking for kids in the age range of 12 to 17 for this class, but we will make exceptions when needed. These classes are on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6pm… which is the same time as the normal kids classes. This make it easy for parents with one more than kid to get everything done at once, and not have to juggle more than 2 nights at the gym.

The teens class will be run by Mike Bouffard and Paul Garabedian. Mike and Paul have been training at Lauzon MMA since they were both teens, and we are sure this will make for a great fit.

If you have any questions, be sure to join the Lauzon MMA Facebook group and let us know.

When I fought last weekend at UFC 118, all of my friends and family were wearing some green shamrock shirts that I had printed up. If I had known how popular they were going to be, I would have printed up a ton more and sold them at the UFC Fan Expo. There has been an overwhelming demand for them so I decided to sell them on here. I have a ton of large in stock but only a few of the other sizes right now. I will have plenty of the other sizes by next week though, so I will ship the ones I can this week and will ship out the rest by Friday September 10th once I have the others printed.

When you choose your size, let me know if you want them signed as well and I will take care of it for you.

For people that are international, send an email to orders@joelauzon.com and let me know what you want and your address… and we will work it out.

Mens Shirts are: Gildan, Pre-Shrunk, 100% Cottom

    Men's Front
    Front
    Men's Back
    Back

T-Shirts Sales are Stopped for right now because I can’t be dealing with shipping shirts when I should be training. I am working on a new way to get this all done though so stay tuned.

Typically when I fight somewhere, there are around 100 people or so that end up flying out to wherever I am fighting. They spend money on tickets to the event, airfare, hotels, food, etc. I have brought armies to Colorado, Omaha, Florida, California and Las Vegas but none have been anything like fighting at home. It had been over 4 years since I fought at home and the welcoming back was amazing.

I have always had a great support network at my fights, but this one was unbelievable. I can’t express how thankful I am to have such a strong following here. My friends are the best and you guys all came out in force. You have no idea how much I appreciate it.

In the old days my training camp mainly consisted of Joe Pomfret, Chris and Jay Palmquist and a couple other guys. This camp was the largest and the best though. Fighting really is a team effort.

Joe Pomfret is the beginning and the end of all things fighting for me. “Fight Dad” got me started and is always the last guy in my ear before a fight. He says the right things at the right time… even when at the time I don’t always 100% agree. He is always right though.

Steve Maze was pulling for the knockout of the night… but what boxing coach wouldn’t be? He had me SHARP for this fight. You only got to see a couple punches before I took the fight to the ground, but had we been on our feet for longer or even the whole fight, you would have seen a huge improvement there.

Steve Baccari is like duct tape. Whether I have an injury and need some kind of rehab exercise, I am just having a bad day and need a quote to laugh at, or need to work on smashing someone on the inside… Steve is the guy. Steve has been involved in one form of brutality or another for 30 years and is the go to guy. It’s always a good idea having someone watch over me to make sure I don’t do anything stupid in training…

Chris Palmquist gets ish done. Chris runs and structures a LOT of my training sessions and just keeps me focused on the fight. There is no one I depend on more than Chris. Period. Chris does everything from scheduling doctors appointments, getting me licensed, handling tickets and t-shirts, covering classes when I have something going on to being one of my best training partners in the gym. If anyone in the gym could best emulate Gabe Ruediger, Chris was clearly the best match. Chris looks like the nerdy office guy with the receding hairline that couldn’t do anything…. and next thing you know you are at Plymouth Plantation face down unconscious in a bush. Whatever needs doing… Chris is my guy. He is also the guy I am coming looking for when I find half a dozen credit cards opened in my name that I know nothing about.

I was fortunate enough to start working with Abmar Barbosa for this fight. Saying Abmar has sick Jiu-Jitsu is like saying water is wet. He has tightened up my game a LOT and gave me a lot of confidence going into this fight. Not all black belts and created equal and Abmar is just dirty.

Kyle Holland and Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning helped me out a TON for this fight. I am sure was a lot stronger than Gabe expected and I was throwing him around from the moment I got my hands on him. I started working out with Kyle like 3 months before the fight and it couldn’t have gone any better. I will take this next week off but I can’t wait to get right back into it with Kyle.

I had two groups of training partners for this fight… because we had the Terry Etim crew and then the Gabe Ruediger crew. This isn’t possible without guys like Jack Wilmarth, Lorenzo Kane, Mike Dunny, Josh Grispi, Joe Proctor, Josh Laberge, Evan Scott, JP White, Tony Ellison, Micro and anyone else I may have concussed, cut, slammed, dropped, injured, or otherwise made them dread coming into the gym.

You guys all keep my sharp and bring out the best in me. That was all of us in there. So thanks to everyone that played a part in any of this.

And a VERY special thanks to Steve Maze’s family for hosting dinner after weigh-ins. I can never again hold it against Steve for eating as much as he did after having his mom’s cooking. Thanks!

Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning, BodyByBoyle.com

After my last fight when conditioning was obviously an issue, I knew I needed to shake things up. Curt Wilson was one of the guys from my gym and he kept telling me had a great guy for strength and conditioning when I wanted to change things up. Turns out, Curt used to work for the Red Sox as an athletic trainer and he also worked for Mike Boyle at Mike Boyle Strength and Conditioning (MBSC). Being oblivious, I had no idea who Mike or MBSC was or what Curt was even talking about, but I was willing to listen and look into it.

I ended up hooking up with Kyle Holland and have been meeting with him a few times a week. Kyle is one of Mike’s trainers and is a pretty big MMA fan. I try not to hold it against him for not being a wrestler, even though he is from Iowa, but it’s tough some days. How can you be from Iowa and not wrestle? Really?

Anyways, MBSC has been a GREAT experience for me. I definitely see a gap in my training filled. I have been getting up at 5am a few days a week to drive an hour to an hour and a half (depending on traffic) to workout. That is how valuable I think it is. I have gotten much stronger, rounded out my body so my weak side is more even with my strong side and my conditioning has made a huge jump.

I was shocked when they started their summer camp. There were tons of high school and college athletes there getting ready for their respective seasons. I remember being in high school and some kids seemed like absolute machines and had been doing off-season work… and this was it.

One of my favorite training quotes ever is: “Champions are made in the off-season.” MBSC is evidence of that. Check out BodyByBoyle.com for more information.

I did a whole bunch of video blogs before my fight in Tampa against Jeremy Stephens. I had a flip cam and  took video of everthing, and then tossed it all together and uploaded them each day. Well… I intended to upload them each day but the internet at the hotel was terrible and I had some issues. I will be home for this fight though, so I am going to do it again for this fight.

So here is my question… how do you want to see them? Do you want to see one longer video each day all edited together? Or do you want to see a bunch of smaller little clips just tossed on my youtube and linked throughout the day?

I like the longer editted video better… but I want to hear what you guys think. Leave a comment and let me know which way you prefer… AND what you want to see the week of the fight.

As a fighter that has spent over 3 months training for a fight, I received the worst email possible yesterday. “Terry Etim is out with an injury. Looking for a replacement”. Wonderful. I spent 3 months training for a 6’1″ kickboxer with slick BJJ. I knew the replacement would never be even close to that. We had done a LOT of very specific training for Terry, which was all for nothing. I hope Terry has a speedy recovery and maybe we can do it down the line.

Bumped into an old highlight video I made about 5 years ago. It’s kind of long but it’s pretty slick. It starts with grappling tournaments and then does MMA fights… AM, Pro and backyard, hah. Let me know what you think.
