UFC.com: Solving for Variables
by Joe Lauzon on Dec.30, 2009, under Press
Believe it or not, the transition from computer wiz to MMA fighter isn’t that much of a stretch. Listen to Joe Lauzon elaborate on his former role, and he may as well be talking about the latter.
“When I was younger, I used to ruin my computers just to see how they worked,” he says. “That way I could learn how to put them back together again. There’s something satisfying about figuring things out or trying to come up with solutions. It’s why I also liked math when I was growing up. I’ve just always loved the challenge of a problem.”
I’m like Superman

Whenever people hear “ACL surgery” they assume the worst. I know for a long time, an ACL surgery was the end of an athletes career. I have gotten so many emails from people telling me it ended their football, soccer, track and basketball careers. Tomorrow will be 8 weeks since surgery and I am amazed at how much more I am able to do. Rehab has come a long way. (continue reading…)
Up and at em’

I was basically stuck in my room for the last month and a half. I couldn’t even get around the house for a while and I definitely couldn’t go outside the house without help. Just walking was pretty slow and difficult and driving was completely out of the question.
Walking without the brace
by Joe Lauzon on Mar.25, 2009, under Blog
I have still been walking with the brace when I leave the house but I can walk without it around the house. I was at rehab and they said it was okay but I was super nervous about it. I had visions of my knee exploding or something! It was fine though.
Quick Update after Rehab Today
by Joe Lauzon on Mar.20, 2009, under Blog
Few quick things…
1) I can start walking with the brace unlocked.
2) Should be done with the brace by the end of next week.
3) My leg still doesn’t like being really straight, so they are getting me some splints that should help. They said within 2 weeks of getting those my leg should be going straight no problem.
I think I am doing good seeing as how I had surgery 2 weeks ago today.
2 Weeks After Surgery
by Joe Lauzon on Mar.20, 2009, under Blog
Well, it’s been 2 weeks since I had ACL Surgery and had my meniscus repaired. I’ve done two rehab sessions this week and have my third one later today. I’m at the point now where I can walk with my brace locked out and unable to bend, but its still pretty shaky. I have been trying to walk a little more each day but have mainly been hopping around and using crutches still. I am really trying not to over do it.
Able to walk… somewhat

I am still using the crutches because my quad muscle is on vacation… but its slowly coming back. I was off my feet for two and a half weeks before surgery, so my quad was on its way out and since surgery its really gone. Its pretty sad to look at my left quad and see the muscle definition, and then see my other fat thigh with no muscle in sight. I am able to actually flex it a little bit now though whereas before I couldn’t even hold a muscle contraction.

Here are some pictures of me knee just 30 hours after surgery. Kind of gross, but really not too bad.
