As a fighter that has spent over 3 months training for a fight, I received the worst email possible yesterday. “Terry Etim is out with an injury. Looking for a replacement”. Wonderful. I spent 3 months training for a 6’1″ kickboxer with slick BJJ. I knew the replacement would never be even close to that. We had done a LOT of very specific training for Terry, which was all for nothing. I hope Terry has a speedy recovery and maybe we can do it down the line.

The UFC is branching out all over the place and this is their first show in North Carolina. I am happy to see them hitting so many other cities and states and letting the UFC brand really move outside the typical Las Vegas area. Fortunately, they are coming to BOSTON in the fall if all goes as planned, which will be great. That should be when I fight next, hopefully. Here are my picks for a couple of the fights tonight.

When I was on the Ultimate Fighter, I met Allen “Monstah Lobstah” Berube and all he did was rant and rave about this guy from back home “Matty”. Allen was convinced he would be perfect for the show. Sure enough, Allen got him into the house for season 6 of The Ultimate Fighter. I’ve had the opportunity to train with Matt on a number of occasions and he is just nasty. Every time I train with Matt or his coach Rob Kahn, I come away with a new outlook on something and a few new tricks that I can instantly add to my game. So I am flying in Arroyo to come out and help me with some of my own training, but also having him put on a small seminar at my school.

I will be at the Arnold Sports Festival this weekend. It’s a huge sports and bodybuilding expo with a ton of different competitions from Jiu-JItsu to Cheerleading to Dance. I will be signing autographs at the UFC booth at the Arnold Fitness EXPO, in the main hall of the Greater Columbus Convention Center, on Friday from 11am to 2pm, and on Saturday from 10am to 12pm.

You can be sure that when assistant principal Joe Pomfret barks orders in the hallways at Ashfield Middle School in Brockton the students listen.

After all, the professional fighters he trains are all ears when Pomfret speaks.
