Conventional wisdom is that winning a season of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and Spike TV reality show competition, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) changes a fighter’s life. The six figure contract, endorsements and television exposure are all typical by products of that success.
But it may end up being that the fighter whose life changes the most as a result of the fifth and most recent season of the series will be semifinalist Joe Lauzon. A member of pound for pound mixed martial arts (MMA) great BJ Penn’s team on TUF 5, the prodigiously talented and hardnosed Lauzon earned the respect of his Hawaiian coaches to the point that Penn encouraged and invited the young Massachusetts native to give up his day job and move to Hawaii to train full time with him.
