As a fighter that has spent over 3 months training for a fight, I received the worst email possible yesterday. “Terry Etim is out with an injury. Looking for a replacement”. Wonderful. I spent 3 months training for a 6’1″ kickboxer with slick BJJ. I knew the replacement would never be even close to that. We had done a LOT of very specific training for Terry, which was all for nothing. I hope Terry has a speedy recovery and maybe we can do it down the line.

The UFC is branching out all over the place and this is their first show in North Carolina. I am happy to see them hitting so many other cities and states and letting the UFC brand really move outside the typical Las Vegas area. Fortunately, they are coming to BOSTON in the fall if all goes as planned, which will be great. That should be when I fight next, hopefully. Here are my picks for a couple of the fights tonight.

I came home from Hawaii last weekend and thought I would have some time to settle into things and get back to a normal schedule. I couldn’t have been more off though. Here is a short summary of my LONG week…

When I hurt my knee, I had a lot of down time and said I was going to blog more. I really haven’t been living up to it though, so I want to fix that. I don’t consider myself an expert at anything, but I think I know a little bit about a lot of different things. I want to write about things you want to read about though, so I would love some input. Off the top of my head, I am thinking…

LAS VEGAS (Jan. 15, 2010) – Despite losing a decision January 2 to Sam Stout, popular lightweight Joe “J-Lau” Lauzon (18-5, 5 [T]KOs, 13 submissions) hopes that his next fight will be this August in UFC’s debut in Boston.
Lauzon, a native of E. Bridgewater (MA), would certainly be a hometown favorite fighting at the Boston Garden. “We’ll see how it goes but I certainly want to fight at home in Boston,” Lauzon said. “I’d like to fight before that, where my fight against Stout was my first in 10 months, …

Joe and Dan Lauzon: Hailing from Bridgewater, Mass, the Lauzon brothers will both be fighting on the UFC 108 card. Joe, 25, has been a fan favorite in the UFC due to his lightning-quick knockout of Jens Pulver in 2006 and earning a semi-final berth on The Ultimate Fighter5. Joe will try to continue his trek towards a lightweight title shot by taking on the heavy-handed Sam Stout. Meanwhile, Dan, 21, is riding high on an eight-fight win streak and will be beginning his second UFC stint against Cole Mille. Dan – who …

Believe it or not, the transition from computer wiz to MMA fighter isn’t that much of a stretch. Listen to Joe Lauzon elaborate on his former role, and he may as well be talking about the latter.
“When I was younger, I used to ruin my computers just to see how they worked,” he says. “That way I could learn how to put them back together again. There’s something satisfying about figuring things out or trying to come up with solutions. It’s why I also liked math when I was growing …

Christmas Day at the Lauzon house centered on fighting rather than the traditional holiday cheer.
Brothers Joe and Danny are both slated to fight in separate lightweight bouts at UFC 108 on Jan. 2 in Las Vegas, which will be the first time siblings have appeared in the Octagon on the same night in its 16-year history. (Matt and Mark Hughes, as well as brothers Dan and Jim Miller, have all appeared in separate events.) The experience of training side by side has redefined the term “brotherly love” in more …
